Toilday, Sarenith 25th, 4719 AR
March South into the Jungle
The Regulators push south into the Jungle making their way towards the river, and more importantly the Blue Dragon Pillar marked on Hezle’s map. Continuously raining through the afternoon’s trek, the party got little relief in this hot humid climate as storms rolled through in the distance. Around dusk the party came upon an encampment set back in the jungle that after some mishaps from triggering traps by Bru-shlee and Adélina Cornaro, they were confronted by several Kobolds attempting to stop the Regulators from killing their sick brethren. Even with the damage already incurred by the traps meant to protect the Kobolds, the party chose diplomacy, even taking a step further and actually spent time treating the poison infecting them.
The Regulators learned that the Kobolds were working in the Cinderclaw mine, and friends with Hezle, but got fed up with the Cinderclaws and left in the dark of night to flee their bullshit, but several of them fell ill and they’ve been stuck here for nearly two weeks trying to recover, with only a few of them getting better. Though the Kobolds didn’t say specifically where they were heading, they noted their plan was to travel west until they get closer to the coastline, far away from the Cinderclaws madness. Given the hospitality of each group, they invited the party to set up their own camp for the night, figuring their healing and assistance was equally good for protection in case something else came by in the night.
Wealday, Sarenith 26th, 4719 AR
Deserted Kobold Camp
The party awoke to find that the Kobolds have fled with their belongings, leaving just the Regulators in their guarded encampment of the Jungle.
Pendergrast’s Expedition
The Regulators came across what they expected to be another battle to destroy the Blue Dragon Pillar, only to discover a well built and handsome mustachioed man named Gerhard Pendergrast, a self proclaimed famous explorer and treasure hunter. Kane did indeed recall some of his exploits, though fuzzy on the details, what he proclaimed seemed to hold up to some scrutiny. Gerhard Pendergrast welcomed the adventurers into camp, as he definitely could use the muscle to load the cargo onto the raft so he could export his prized dragon pillar, which while fighting the demonic ape beasts, his men were petrified in the process, but as he noted “They knew what they signed up for!” Even still, Kane emphasized repeatedly that the Dragon Pillar must be destroyed, only to be rebuffed by Gerhard Pendergrast claiming that “…it will be a centerpiece of his next exhibition at the museum of antiquity in Oppara!“.
Moving past their disagreement about his prized possession, Gerhard Pendergrast ushered the party over to the campfire north of his tent. With dusk was settling in, Gerhard Pendergrast offered them a strong whiskey drink where they shared stories around the fire; discussing why they were wandering about the jungle, about the demonic ape beasts (Charau-ka), river crocks, and plenty of creepy crawlies and damned mosquitoes that sent several men back to their port upstream. Gerhard Pendergrast noted how he could use some help hauling small kegs of explosive powder up to an ancient demonic temple that must be destroyed, even offering 50 gold pieces each for the help! Agreeing to join his quest, the Regulators turned in for the night in the camp setup by the petrified men.
